Baby Teeth - “Big Schools” from Hustle Beach (Lujo, 2009)

i was disappointed for sure to learn that baby teeth is more of a songwriting project than a band with an actual aesthetic, because this song is insane and hilarious, chronicling the journey of a couple from their triumphant meeting at a big midwestern state school (per the songwriter i guess he had louisville in mind) to the inevitable disappointment of everything that’s happened since (sample lyric: “inside it was bonafide / two kegs that hadn’t even been tapped yet”).  the song is performed with note-perfect details from the ‘75-‘85 era, incl. a cowbell, and obvious springsteen piano rip, and the synth tone from “jump” an octive or so down.  while i liked this song better when i had no idea whether they were taking the piss or not, you still should hear it.
